Don’t know why I’ve never been on the Grand Ballon up to now – this veritable high mountain in the High Vosges stretching up from the Rhine Valley. With a long forerun where I did part of the Alsace wineroute in reverse to last year I was happy to climb up.
Route: Start Molsheim camping – Obernai breakfast – Gertwiller – Itterswiller – Nothalten – Dambach – Chatenois – Turckheim – Munster (the morbid cheese) – Metzeral – Col Platzerwasel – Le Breitfirst – Le Gran Ballon – Cernay – Burnhaupt Le Haut – camping
Dates: 141 km; 1860 altitude meters; 20 to 29 degrees, above 1000 meters comfortable 23; light NE wind turning to E
